[Man Found Guilty of Killing San Marcos Police Officer Files Appeal for Life Sentence] [Man Found Guilty of Killing San Marcos Police Officer Files Appeal for Life Sentence]( In case you missed it: Explosion rocks Russian gas export terminal near St. Petersburg; drones suspected ST. PETERSBURG, Russia - An explosion at a gas export terminal near the city of St. Petersburg, Russia has caused a large fire, according to officials. The state-owned Ria Novosti news agency reported that the fire has been contained and that there are no reports of injuries. The cause of the explosion is currently unknown, but local media have mentioned the presence of drones in the area. While Ukraine typically does not admit to such attacks, Ukrainian media sources have suggested that Kyiv may have been involved. Both Russia and Ukraine have utilized drones in their ongoing conflict. Russia initially launched its invasion of Ukraine nearly two years ago, but has made minimal progress in recent months. In addition to the explosion near St. Petersburg, on Sunday, 25 people were killed and 20 injured by shelling in the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, as reported by the city's Russian-installed mayor, Alexei Kulemzin. No comment has been made by Kyiv regarding that attack. Following the explosion near St. Petersburg, the regional governor, Alexander Drozdenko, announced a "high alert regime". Novatek, the gas producer, had to suspend work at the terminal, stating that the fire was due to "external influence" without providing further details. Local residents reported hearing a drone followed by multiple explosions at Ust-Luga, near Russia's border with Estonia. St. Petersburg-based news outlet Fontanka mentioned the sighting of at least two drones flying towards the city before the fire started. The details of what occurred have not been verified by the BBC and there has been no response from Ukrainian officials. Russia's defense ministry also claimed to have shot down three Ukrainian drones in the Smolensk Region and two others in Tula and Oryol, both in western Russia, without any reported casualties. Considering these events, tensions remain high between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides continuing to engage in military actions.
