[The Untold Heroism of Arland D. Williams Jr. Amid National Tragedy Resurfaces After 40 Years] [The Untold Heroism of Arland D. Williams Jr. Amid National Tragedy Resurfaces After 40 Years]( In case you missed it: Four North Carolina Men Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murder-For-Hire Plot Resulting in the Death of a Norfolk Woman NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Four men from North Carolina have been sentenced to life in prison for their involvement in a 2016 murder-for-hire that led to the death of a Norfolk woman. Jaquate Simpson, Landis Jackson, Kalub Shipman, and Nelson Evans were found guilty in March 2023 and received mandatory life sentences for the murder of 59-year-old Lillian Bond. Court documents and trial evidence revealed that the murder was linked to a long-standing drug trafficking operation led by Simpson and Jackson. The operation was responsible for distributing large quantities of cocaine in central North Carolina and the Hampton Roads region of Virginia. Bond was fatally shot on April 19, 2016, as part of a retaliation for a drug debt owed by a Norfolk-based dealer. Shipman was hired to carry out the murder, recruiting Evans to help. The two men traveled to Virginia and shot Bond as she was taking out the trash. Prosecutors described Bond as a neighborhood caretaker known for her willingness to help others, having worked at a children's hospital for 20 years. Simpson and Jackson were convicted of a range of charges including murder while engaged in a drug-trafficking offense, distribution of cocaine, and conspiracy to commit murder for hire. Shipman and Evans were also convicted of various charges related to the murder. The sentencing of the four men brings some closure to the tragic loss of Lillian Bond in 2016. The case highlights the dangerous and deadly consequences of drug trafficking and the devastating impact it can have on innocent lives. The mandatory life sentences serve as a reminder of the severe legal consequences for those involved in such criminal activities. This is a developing story and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
