[Gas Leak Explosion Injures 21 at Downtown Fort Worth Hotel] [Gas Leak Explosion Injures 21 at Downtown Fort Worth Hotel]( In case you missed it: Tragic String of Student Deaths in Billings Prompts SD2 to Increase Mental Health Support BILLINGS, Mont. - Over the past few months, the city of Billings has faced several tragedies involving the loss of several students from the Billings Public Schools community. Another student lost their life in a tragic accident this weekend. According to Gordon Klasna, the Director of Secondary Education for SD2, a crisis response team is in place to support staff and students dealing with loss. He emphasized that navigating trauma is different for everyone, especially for children and teenagers who struggle to express their feelings. Klasna stressed the importance of not having to go through these tragic events alone and highlighted that SD2 makes every effort to support students in any way possible. He noted that the entire state, including SD2, is facing a shortage of mental health providers, making it essential to provide support for students and staff during times of tragedy. In response to these challenges, SD2 was awarded a grant to transfer staff into mental health positions and add more guidance counselors to enhance support for staff and students during difficult times. Klasna also urged parents or guardians with students struggling with mental health or trauma to reach out to the school district for support. In cases like this, guidance counselors visit each class the student was enrolled in to address the classroom and ensure they know they are supported. Despite the ongoing shortage of mental health providers, SD2 is making efforts to be as well-prepared as possible and to provide as much support as they can to students and staff in tragic situations. In conclusion, the tragic loss of students in Billings, Mont., serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of mental health support and crisis response services in schools. The ongoing efforts of the school district and the grant received will help ensure that students and staff receive the necessary support during these trying times.
