Don’t Get Spooked by Startups 👻

Why Startups Can Seem Scary We receive tons of emails and DMs from people telling us they’re into the idea of investing in startups, but they’re simply spooked by the idea of putting money in private companies. We get it. So, let’s get the risks out of the way. Fewer than 1% of all startups succeed. They don’t have the track records of a Google, Apple, or Amazon. This could lead to investors losing some or all of their initial investments. A Ghoulishly Good Deal Startup investing’s risks can be outweighed by its rewards. Sure, you could invest in a startup that doesn’t perform to your expectations, but if you invest in one that does, it could pay back multiples of your initial investment. We’re not talking pinball multipliers, either. Over the last few decades, early investors have made 10,000X their initial investment in successful deals when high-profile startups went public or got acquired. The chances of this happening aren’t exactly high, but they get better when investing across multiple companies. Think of startup investing as trick or treating. Most of the time, you’re gonna find a house that gives the same ol’ Sweedish Fish, Jolly Ranchers or (shudders) pamphlets. Yet if you keep at it, you’ll eventually find the house that just leaves the bowl full of candy with king-sized bars on the porch.
