The good, the bad, and the gospel. + FREE E-BOOK: What is Biblical Social Justice? Deconstruction: no one should journey alone. Derek Webb. Rhett & Link. Michael Gungor. Joshua Harris. Audrey Assad. Every few months, it seems like another ‘celebrity’ Christian reveals that they’ve deconstructed their faith, or deconverted from Christianity entirely. They might tell a story of seasons of doubting, or years of wondering if there is still space for them within the faith. Their news of deconstruction is met with mixed responses from their fanbase: grief, celebration, judgment, confusion, agreement, fear, sometimes even evangelism. When any Christian—famous or otherwise—is deconstructing their faith, it’s not easy news for them to share and it’s not easy news for their community to hear. But does it necessarily have to be bad news? Here at Love Thy Neighborhood, we wanted to find out: What is deconstruction, and where does it lead us? We looked at scripture and Jesus’ ministry, and the many times he dismantled the religious culture of his day. We talked to Christians who were in the midst of deconstruction processes. We talked to experts in philosophy and theology. And we learned a lot. Deconstruction doesn’t have to end with deconversion… sometimes it can be a process of refining our faith, leading us to release the cultural constructs of Christianity while holding fast to our anchor, Jesus, and to the essential truths of God’s word. Are you ready to hear these stories and think critically about deconstruction? Check out the Love Thy Neighborhood Podcast episode: [Where The Gospel Meets Deconstruction](. If you find yourself in a process of deconstruction, it's so important to stay rooted in a diverse, supportive community—sometimes to be encouraged , sometimes to be challenged. At Love Thy Neighborhood, we have seen first-hand just how profoundly God works through relationships. Within our gap-year or summer program, our team members serve at an urban ministry while going deep in Christian community. Their lives are changed when they show up for one another, stay committed to one another, and make space for each other on the journey.
