Well, it looks like the heat is turning up in New York City, and it's not just about the weather. Mayor Eric Adams is finding himself at the center of yet another federal investigation, with [FBI raids]( sweeping through the homes of his top aides. This time, though, it's apparently not tied to the corruption probe involving Adams' alleged cozy relationship with the Turkish government. But you know what they say: where there's smoke, there's fire. So, who's caught in this latest web? Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks, First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, and Schools Chancellor David Banks are all in the spotlight. Oh, and let's not forget about New York City Police Commissioner Edward Caban, whose phone was seized, along with Timothy Pearson, one of the mayor's senior advisers. Oh, and by the way, Terence Banks, the consultant whose home was searched, just happens to be the brother of Philip and David Banks. Cozy, right? Of course, City Hall's legal team was quick to assure everyone that Mayor Adams and his staff aren't "targets" of this investigation. Sure, but given that the FBI raided his top aides' homes, it's safe to say things aren't exactly looking squeaky clean. [pic.twitter.com/viLGc3YOaU]( - Kristy Tallman (@KristyTallman) [September 5, 2024]( The Southern District of New York is handling this new criminal probe-you know, the same folks digging into Adams' alleged illegal campaign contributions from the Turkish government. Allegedly, Turkish officials might've funneled money into his campaign, potentially in exchange for a few favors, like turning a blind eye to safety violations at their new 35-story Manhattan consulate. And oh, let's not forget about those free upgrades Adams allegedly enjoyed on Turkish Airlines. Nothing says "clean government" quite like free luxury perks from a foreign nation. Adams, who's already under the microscope for allegedly pressuring city officials to grant temporary occupancy for that Turkish consulate despite major fire safety concerns, is now facing increased scrutiny. This isn't just about a couple of questionable campaign contributions-this is about potential corruption at the highest levels, involving international interests. The Turkish consulate deal wasn't just any old building, either-it's a $300 million high-rise, the country's most expensive foreign mission project. And who was there to celebrate the grand opening? None other than Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, of course. The FBI raided the homes of two aides to New York City Mayor Eric Adams and seized the phones of the NYPD commissioner and at least six other top NYPD officials. [@AaronKatersky]( has the details. The question is, how much longer can City Hall hold the line before this house of cards comes tumbling down?
