The proposed state legislative maps, unveiled by conservative leaders, are an audacious power grab that tramples on the principles of fair representation. [Ohioans deserve -- and have loudly demanded -- fair legislative maps, not this embarrassing attempt at continued political control in an equally divided state.]( IF: …we allow this to stand unchallenged; we endorse an alarming precedent. The House map doles out an unconscionable 62 Republican districts, leaving a mere 37 for Democrats. Similarly, the Senate map serves up 23 Republican districts to just 10 for Democrats. This is a stark departure from Ohio's diverse and closely divided electorate. --------------------------------------------------------------- THEN: …we must act decisively. The time for complacency is past. Last week, the Republican-led Commission gave the public less than 48 hours to respond in public comment meetings.
