A study this year found that over the past decade, 25 states have enacted new voting restrictions like unnecessary photo ID requirements, limits on early voting, and rules that ultimately make it harder to register to vote. The current spike -- 425 introduced bills and 33 enacted laws -- is a direct reaction to the 2020 elections, which drew the highest voter turnout rate in more than a century. Partisan politicians across the country are trying to disenfranchise voters and manipulate maps before the 2022 midterm elections. Just look at Georgia -- after passing one of the nation’s worst voter suppression laws earlier this year, the General Assembly proposed legislative maps that double down on current gerrymanders.
