When maps are drawn fairly, the will of the voters prevails. In other words, when voters vote under fair maps, we get fair results -- and in many cases, it unlocks the partisan stranglehold that conservatives have at the state level. That's why our attention -- and our grassroots organizing power -- is focused on North Carolina today, where a panel of judges unanimously decided that the current congressional districts cannot be used in the 2020 elections because they will likely be found unconstitutional. Legislators began the process of redrawing the map this week. But it quickly became apparent that map manipulators are trying to use this redraw as an opportunity to continue to push unfairly gerrymandered maps. The map that the committee has proposed to start with was drawn using racial data and maintains extreme partisan bias -- two key indicators of unfair gerrymandering.
