Today, Tenisha Longmire and her three children are safe in a Red Cross shelter in Baton Rouge. But their journey to safety was a frightening one. After running to the store to stock up on supplies, Tenisha couldn’t get home to her children because of the flooding. Her mother took the children in, and Tenisha slept in a car for several days until the family was reunited. Then, the family looked for a place to stay, but no one had room for them. "I felt ashamed,” Tenisha said. “But you folks … the Red Cross … you welcomed us … me … my kids. You folks have been so wonderful. I don’t know what we are going to do or where we are going to go, but I’ll never forget how kind your volunteers have been to us. You’ve treated us like family. Thank you, Red Cross.” There are thousands more people just like Tenisha and her family who are in a shelter right now … and thousands more are returning to damaged homes. We can only be there for them with your support. [Please, donate today so that the Red Cross can continue to help families who have lost everything to the flooding in Louisiana.] The people of Louisiana need you now more than ever.
