That leaves the company's HR department with a monumental task, because the way it treats its workers not only impacts Amazon but it also sets an example for the rest of the country. The company's controversial approach to optimizing labor in its warehouses is well documented. What it's like to work at Amazon corporate is a bit more of a mystery. It sounds rough. The New York Times once described Amazon's corporate offices as a place where people routinely cried at their desks, and today, some employees say they feel stuck at the bottom of the ladder. In interviews with Recode, dozens of Amazon employees detailed allegations of racial bias and discrimination on the job — and many of them said the company’s HR department was part of the problem. Recode senior correspondent Jason Del Rey has been reporting on the complaints about race and diversity at Amazon. His latest investigation takes a close look at Amazon HR.
