Here's what happens now.]( After the historic union vote at an Amazon warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama, failed last week, it's easy to imagine that some organizers would feel discouraged. The vote was not that close. Amazon is being accused of illegal union-busting tactics, and the union organizers are already challenging the outcome. But elsewhere in the United States, the apparent defeat may turn out to be something to rally behind. "Although we may not have gotten the results we wanted this time around, this doesn't discourage the workers of Amazon,” Christian Smalls, a former Amazon assistant warehouse manager who the New York attorney general says was unlawfully fired for his labor activism and is now helping organize a union drive on Staten Island, told Recode. "If anything, it motivates. We believe it's possible even more so than before, so I still consider this a victory for Bessemer to spark the fuse which ignited us all to be talking about unions again in this country." Recode's Jason Del Rey spoke with a number of Amazon organizers, and reports that the Teamsters might be behind a new union drive.
