That's a word that pops up when you ask former colleagues about him. And it's no mistake that, in the email announcing his departure as CEO, Jeff Bezos vowed that the future of Amazon would be invention. Jassy joined Amazon in 1997, just three years after the company started. Five years later he became Bezos's "shadow," which meant he attended all meetings with the Amazon founder and served as a sort of chief of staff. Not long after that role, Jassy took on the project that would become Amazon Web Services, effectively creating a new industry for cloud computing and an essential new profit engine for Amazon itself. What lies ahead for Jassy is undoubtedly a challenge on a different scale. The company's financials have never been better, but it's also never faced so much public scrutiny. Later this year when he takes over as CEO, Jassy will be the guy to deal with all of it. Recode's Jason Del Rey spoke with over half a dozen former Amazon executives about Jassy, what he's like, and what we might expect from him.
