The company did report an impressive $2.5 billion in profit, but according to Jeff Bezos, serious challenges lie ahead. As Amazon prepares for many more months of high sales, the company expects to earn $4 billion in profit in the second quarter. Bezos says the company also expects "to spend the entirety of that $4 billion, and perhaps a bit more, on Covid-related expenses, getting products to customers, and keeping employees safe.” Meanwhile, the company continues to struggle with scrutiny from lawmakers as well as protests from employees over warehouse working conditions. In his latest, Recode's Jason Del Rey looks at Amazon's earnings, analyzes how they fit into the company's so-far-exceptional year, and reports on what happens next.
