[Techâs biggest apologies: a timeline.](In recent years, a series of top designers, developers, managers, and investors have expressed regret for the tech theyâve built. These apologies can range from useful proposals and frank factual statements to expressions of regret that seem mostly self-centered. Here are some of the most recent and high-profile apologies in tech.

[23 Amazon warehouse workers in Chicago say the company cheated them out of overtime hours for their work on Prime Day.](The employees, part of a recently formed organization of warehouse workers called DCH1 Amazonians United, filed a complaint with the Illinois Department of Labor over the hours in dispute. During Prime Week, a [record heat wave hit Chicago](, prompting their Amazon facility management to dismiss them early with the promise of a full dayâs pay. Now, these workers say that on their time cards for that day, Amazon counted those six hours in the following weekâs pay period â meaning they wonât be paid overtime for those hours.
- The big deal: The workersâ complaints come at a time when Amazon warehouse workers across the world have alleged that they are overworked, underpaid, and mistreated. And over this yearâs Prime Day event, [Amazon workers in Minnesota went on strike]( to demand improved working conditions and policies.

[Speaking of Amazon, Whole Foods may just be the appetizer to Amazonâs larger grocery meal.]( A few months before Amazon purchased Whole Foods in 2017, it circulated a memo that detailed a new grocery shopping experience and a chain of stores to go with it, the New York Times reports. The idea was to allow shoppers to pick out fresh fruits and vegetables while their online orders for other goods like paper towels or canned foods were assembled and placed for pickup at checkout. Now, two years after Amazon acquired Whole Foods, executives are hungry for another food selling option, one that is all Amazon, according to the Times.
- Whatâs next: Itâs unclear exactly what Amazon has in the works, but the Times reports that signs indicate Amazon is making hires to support its grocery plans and exploring real estate options. To be a contender in the grocery market, Amazon will need to open more than 2,000 stores; experts have said it could take up to 10 years to establish a chain.

[The new platform to scam your parents: Nextdoor.]( While itâs not a new platform, Nextdoor has become a new avenue to carry out the time-honored home improvement scam. BuzzFeed News reports that in addition to providing the full names of people on the platform, âNextdoor saves scammers time by revealing exactly who needs construction work â and where they live.â In a statement to BuzzFeed, Nextdoor said âthis is an issue that affects all online platforms, and we encourage our members to take this matter seriously and to continue to be vigilant online at all times.â The platform is also a host to scams for [people-for-hire]( and [car sales](.
- The rise of fear-based social media: Beyond scams, Nextdoor and its fellow neighborhood social platforms (including Citizen and Amazon Ringâs Neighbors)[can fuel an unreasonable anxiety about crime](and can encourage racial profiling in communities.
