Nothing micro about it
AMD got more than a semi at the thought of scooping up Xilinx.
Advanced Micro Devices is in talks to acquire Xilinx for roughly $30B. The semiconductor giant has seen a spike in demand for its chips as more employees are working from home, leading to a 63% increase in its stock price over the past six months. Another company benefiting from ârona⦠almost makes you think *puts on tinfoil hat*.
Thereâs a few ways the deal could be funded... cash, debt, stock or some combination. The board may be hesitant to approve an all stock deal though, considering the companyâs run up in price over the past few years.
AMD is sitting near an ATH of $83.10, which is justtt a bit higher than the $3 $AMD was at when its CEO Lisa Su took over in 2014.
Taking a step back
Xilinx develops adaptive processing platforms (whatever the f*ck those actually are), and is one of two major companies that make FPGA chips, which are utilized to speed up AI and 5G communication efforts in large cloud data centers. So, Skynet.
AMD, on the other hand, develops computer processors and graphics cards. What exactly does that mean? Youâve got them to thank for the ability to view OnlyFans in ultra-crisp HD on your monitor.
Letâs make a deal
Leading the charge on this acquisition is AMDâs CEO Lisa Su, who has righted the ship since taking over in 2014. During her tenure shares are up over 2,000%. She's [been instrumental]( in the companyâs goal of paying down debt.
This certainly isnât going to helpâ¦
The bottom line...
Itâs rumored that the deal may close next week, but whichever way AMD chooses to fund this deal, it has to keep in mind lessons learned from previous acquisitions.
AMD was over leveraged and nearly went bust in 2006 when it took on $5B in debt to acquire ATI Technologies. [According to]( a Bloomberg Intelligence analysis, AMD should take on a max of $10B of debt for this deal. Any more and the company is at risk allowing history to repeat itself.
âLord forgive me, for itâs time [to go back to tha old me](.â - Lisa Su, maybe...

âï¸Concessions stand. The next round of stimulus talks is back on... again. President Trump and the White House put forth [a $1.8T bill]( to Democrats in hopes of getting a deal done. Only problem is that the Democrats were looking for a $2.2T stimulus package.
This move comes after a clusterf*ck of a week that saw POTUS call for an end to stimulus negotiations, preferring individual stimulus bills over a larger deal. He quickly backtracked... and here we are.
Even if the two sides can come to an agreement on the amount of the bill, it still has to get through the Senate, which according to Majority leader Mitch McConnel is... unlikely.
âï¸To the moon. Despite the roller coaster week, markets [posted their best performances]( since the summer. The S&P and Nasdaq were up 3.8% and 4.7%, respectively, marking the highest one week totals since July. And the Dow rose 3.3%, its biggest gain since August.
The reason? You guessed it... stimulus.
âï¸Give me some space. Richard Bransonâs Virgin Orbit, which launches satellites into space, is looking to raise $200M [at a valuation of $1B](. Don't we have more pressing issues down here on earth to pour $200M into?
Branson's other space venture, Virgin Galactic, competes with Elonâs SpaceX in the space travel industry (what a time to be alive). Orbit, however, focuses on smaller satellite launches and will look to continue product development with the funding.
