Can You Really “Think and Grow Rich?” The Mindset of Living a Wealthy Life Dear Reader, I

[Image]( Can You Really “Think and Grow Rich?” The Mindset of Living a Wealthy Life Dear Reader, I shared the belief that real wealth isn’t the same as having lots of money—in my first message to you. Along with the idea, having a lot of money isn’t a substitute for real wealth. But before we continue, there’s something I need to go over; “Heck; why does it even matter? I mean, why not just make money and call it good? Enough of all this fuzzy crap, already!” Good point. At the [WealthWise podcast](, I speak with a lot of successful people from all walks of life, many of them millionaires. And every one of them shares that money, alone, isn’t enough. Money buys freedom and certain things, and sure, it’s nice to have the ability to have luxurious things around you. But money, alone? Just doesn’t cut it—nowhere. You can have millions in the bank and zero in your life (maybe you even know someone like that already?) One of my guests on [WealthWise, Chris Graebe,]( put it this way; “I don’t want to look back at my grandkids and go like, “Wow, Grandpa was really a douche. He was really focused on himself.” And I think the longer you’re in this, and the more wealth you build, I hope, because it will all fade. And if you have tons of money but you lose your marriage, and you lose your character, and you sacrifice all along the way, then you have not built wealth; you have built a very nice bank account. But I can guarantee you; you talk to most people who have lost all of that, and they would trade their family, their relationships, all of it, to go back and not leave a path of destruction behind them." Let’s be clear; I enjoy money, and there are plenty of [proven ways to make it](. My role here is to guide you along the path of becoming wealthy, and living a wealthy life is a very good skill to have. Being wealthy is something that you always have no matter what else happens. And yes, being wealthy is a skill that can be learned just like any other skill. The Three Cornerstones to Creating Wealth: Mindset Here at WealthWise our ideas are based on three core tenets to creating and living a wealthy life; the mindset, mechanism, and motivation needed to build a wealthy life. In this email we’re exploring what we mean by the mindset of building wealth. What is a mindset when it’s at home? I’d say that a mindset is a collection of attitudes, beliefs and assumptions (things you may unconsciously take for granted), and your internal dialog (the “voice in your head”), in this case about what wealth currently means to you. I say currently because this virtual gunny sack of the assumptions and decisions that you’ve made about wealth so far in your life can be changed, as can what “wealth” means to you. Brother, Can You Spare a Paradigm? I don’t know what living a “wealthy life” means to you, and so I don’t have all the answers. But I might just have something better than that. When I don’t have an answer to a question, the answer very often lies in my ability to ask a different – a better – question. “If I had an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on the solution, I would spend the first 55 minutes determining the proper question to ask. For once I know the proper question, I could solve the problem in less than five minutes.” - Albert Einstein The first question to ask yourself might be, “What does living a wealthy life mean to me?” Get clear on it – write a list if you like – on the most valuable things in your life and what would contribute to living a wealthy life. If your current experience is different to your definition of living a wealthy life, and you could change that, the next question might be, “If I needed to change something to experience wealth, what would it be?” And this “change something” could even be something that you currently believe about whether you can or should live a wealthy life. Change? Better Believe It! Even beliefs can change and be changed. One of the things that is very clear from all the guests that I’ve interviewed on WealthWise is that they made a decision to consciously change their ideas about wealth and money before they made it financially. It’s as if they acquired a wealthy mindset first, before gaining the money. [Chris Hogan]( – whom I interviewed on WealthWise – shared how although he managed millions of dollars for other people, and for all intents enjoyed a very comfortable, millionaire-like lifestyle, he in fact had almost nothing to show for it! But one day the lightbulb went off for him, and he made a small change that had a huge impact on the wealth in his life. It’s what we refer to as a practical first step to becoming a millionaire! (There is [another cool thing about becoming a millionaire that Chris was able to share with me](, too). How to Change Your Mindset About Wealth Whether you agree or disagree with what I’ve shared here, that – right there –that is your current mindset about wealth. Our beliefs and assumptions about wealth guide our decisions and experiences about wealth in life. Whether your current beliefs support or detract from living a wealthy life, anything can be changed. Your inner wealth IS your outer wealth. This email is about just one tenet of creating a wealthy life according to WealthWise; mindset. And every one of our guests on WealthWise have consciously decided to grow and change their mindset about what living a wealthy life means to each of them. There is not one universal “wealthy” mindset, it is an individual thing. But two things we’ve shared today can help you to uncover and build whatever being wealthy means to you. The first idea are the questions that you ask yourself about wealth and how to live a wealthy life. “Questions are the answer” as Tony Robbins clearly suggests. The second idea I’ve touched on is how to change our existing beliefs or mindset about wealth—not only through the questions you ask, but by learning how people who are living a wealthy life got to that place. What questions did they ask themselves? What new beliefs, attitudes, or practices did they decide to adopt? And conversely, what beliefs, attitudes, or habits did they need to drop to lead a wealthy life? On [WealthWise]( our guests share inspiring stories and practical wisdom to help you achieve real wealth in your life. I wanted to end our email today with a book recommendation. Over 82 years ago Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill was first published. It asked a question, “What makes a winner?” It was a good question to ask, and Hill wrote Think and Grow Rich to share what he believed was the answer. If you don’t find time to read it (with three young sons, book time often means storytime!), consider buying the audiobook to listen to in those 10 and 15-minute journeys here and there. Think and Grow Rich is a good read – or listen – and the perspectives he shares open up new ideas. And better questions! Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
