Here's what's been going on behind the scenes at Radiopaedia ... [View this email in your browser]( It's (not) a bug's life Usually, we start the newsletter with exciting news about new features or upcoming events. Instead, this month, we thought we’d give you a glimpse into the dark underbelly of running a popular website. Early in the year, we became aware that spammers had managed to circumvent our safety measures and were creating thousands upon thousands of user accounts with links to unregulated online pharmacies. We dropped everything else and started quickly (perhaps too quickly) dealing with these accounts and fortifying our anti-spam strategy. And so began a little near-death spiral. The more we tried to fix things, the more bugs we introduced and discovered, and the jankier the site became. Many of you know the rest: we had to temporarily disable DICOM uploads and image cropping. Jump forward to now: we're (mostly) back to normal with some improvements thrown in for good measure. A huge shoutout goes to our brilliant team of developers. They have worked tirelessly through this mini-crisis and are now looking forward to the next features. To have a front seat to these crises,or to just stay up to date, drop into our community chat. [JOIN THE CHAT]( Find out where it all began, with Radiopaedia founder, Frank Gaillard Ever procrastinated so hard that you developed a website that gets 25 million page views a month? Frank has. In this Radiopaedia Reading Room Podcast episode, Frank joins the wonderful Uzoma and Jamie from RadCast to tell the tale of Radiopaedia's inception and discuss the guiding principles that continue to shape our work at Radiopaedia. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
