[View on the web]( [Visit our site!]( [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Instagram]( Feature [Why Girl Groups Always Dress Alike]( [Fifth Harmony]( It’s VMAs night, and with scheduled performances from Kendrick Lamar, Lorde, and The Weeknd, there’s a lot to look forward to. Of particular interest is Fifth Harmony; the group may have lost its fifth harmonizer (that’d be Camila Cabello, who made her dramatic exit last December), but the remaining members sound as solid as ever on their new, self-titled third album. “Fifth Harmony” is already being hailed by critics as 5H’s strongest effort yet, and tonight, members Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane Hansen, and Normani Kordei will take to the VMAs stage. I can’t wait to see what they sing (I’m placing my bets on “Down,” the album’s double-nominated lead single featuring Gucci Mane) — and what they wear. Like nearly every girl group throughout history — from the Shirelles and the Supremes to TLC and Destiny’s Child — Fifth Harmony members have always made a point of, well, harmonizing their outfits for both performances and red carpet appearances. “It’s to show unity,” explains Gigi Hernandez, the stylist behind some of the band’s most recent looks. “These girls are always photo’d on red carpets together… so when they’re all coordinated, they just look better as a group.” It’ll be interesting to see how Fifth Harmony uses style to assert their solidarity tonight, and whether ex-member Cabello’s outfit choice will make a statement of some sort, too.
