Shake Off the Winter Doldrums With Some Extra Discounts
If the winter doldrums have you in need of a little retail therapy, then step right up: Itâs Presidentâs Day weekend, and most online shops are jumping at any excuse to host a sale. There are more than enough sales to go around; Iâve highlighted the best of the best below, with a few great deals pulled out.
February is a bit of a misfit month when it comes to shopping â you donât need any more winter stuff, but itâs too early for spring clothes â so Iâve tried to focus on stores and brands that make great year-round staples. On the other hand, Iâve also included some retailers that stock fun designers, in case your winter blues are so bad you need a total curveball to bring a smile to that face. â[Cory {NAME}](, shopping editor

[Garmentory: Flash sale for Nashville boutiques](. Garmentory is shining a spotlight on some of Nashvilleâs coolest brands and boutiques â including [Imogene + Willie]( and [Goodwin]( â with up to 60% off. Iâm eyeing these great [high-waisted jeans](, as well as all the [lovely mules]( at Ceri Hoover.
[Gilt: Take an extra 20% off on Monday](. Gilt and Gilt City are offering an extra 20% off for Presidentâs Day. Current sales include Veda and Gucci, so youâll probably find something worth splurging on.
[Lou & Grey: Take 25% off your entire purchase](. If you canât help but look forward to spring clothes, Lou & Grey is offering 25% off your purchase, including new arrivals and featured brands, from Lacausa to Tai Jewelry.
[Madewell: Take an extra 30% off sale items through Tuesday](. Madewell has a ton of stuff on sale right now, from booties to overalls, so this deal is even better than it sounds. Iâve got my eye on this [off-the-shoulder top](, which after the discount is around $20 (originally $68).
[Matches Fashion: Up to 80% off](. Most of the multi-brand designer retailers have wrapped up their winter sales â Opening Ceremony has a mere 12 items left in the womenâs sale section â but Matches is still going strong with page after page of desirable labels, from the highly wearable (like SEA and Frame) to the pie-in-the-sky (like Zimmermann and Valentino).
[Mohawk General Store: Up to 50% off](. On the boutique front, LAâs Mohawk General Store has some real gems in the sale section for both men and women from brands that donât often go on sale, like Ryan Roche, Sandy Liang, Dries Van Noten, and Tibi.
[Nordstrom: Up to 40% off](. For another not-picked-over sale, head to Nordstrom, which just launched today and will run through February 26th. Highlights include Rag & Bone and Stuart Weitzman.
[The Dreslyn: 20% off your order with code WINTER](. This sale is great because it applies to anything on the whole site, whether or not itâs already marked down. Shop everything from Common Projects[sneakers]( to [A.P.C. jeans](.

[Why Does Fashion Week Still Exist?](
[Guys with long hair.](
I should, or could, be at fashion shows right now. Itâs the Saturday of Fashion Week â Alexander Wang day! â but instead Iâm at a coffee shop writing this and editing Rackedâs new political style guide because times are weird, but also because in the past week at least five people have asked me why Fashion Week still exists and I have no idea.
Caroline de Maigret walked past me on the quick walk over here, validating the question. Weâre on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, far from the closest runway, and if the striking French street style star, a Chanel ambassador, is in jeans and sneakers with a kid carrying a pizza box, my decision to play hooky has been blessed by a totally chill fashion goddess.
Letâs get one thing out of the way: The world is a mess and everything is questionable right now. If you arenât having moments of âWhy does this matter?â you probably arenât reading the news. But even putting that aside, Fashion Week is due for a gut renovation â a complete leveling, even. In lieu of what was an electric, vibrant celebration of creativity is a panicked rush to sell a thing, to cling to a crumbling, outdated structure that doesnât appear to work very well for anyone. And let me add that I love fashion, I have cried at fashion shows, but something is broken.

Just One Thing
The Perfect Liquid Eyeliner That Never, Ever Smudges
Stila [Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner](, $22
When it comes to my beauty routine, Iâm pretty basic; concealer, mascara, a [red lip](, and liquid liner are my only real everyday essentials. I also donât like to spend a lot of money on my makeup, which explains why most of my favorite beauty products come from the drugstore.
Except for one: Stila [Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner](, which at $22 costs more than my favorite cheapie concealer, lipstick, and mascara combined. But Iâll never stop repurchasing it, because itâs the only eyeliner I have ever tried â ever â that doesnât migrate onto my upper lids by lunchtime.
And trust me, Iâve done my research. Over the years, Iâve test-driven dozens of drugstore and designer liquid and pencil eyeliners, both waterproof and not. Every single one has wound up transferring onto my top lids except for Stilaâs, which somehow manages to stay put through stressful 14-hour workdays, music festivals in 90-degree desert heat, and even treadmill workouts. (Yes, I sometimes wear makeup to the gym. Deal with it.)
Itâs also easy to apply, which liquid eyeliner, by definition, is not. And itâs easy to remove with just face wash and water, which waterproof eyeliner, by definition, is not. Basically, the stuff defies both expectation and explanation, and if you love a good cat-eye, you need it in your life. â[Elana Fishman](, entertainment editor
