This shows that the great power is from God, not from us.â 2 Corinthians 4:7 (NCV) Youâre always going to get discouraged when you try to be a superhero and do more than is humanly possible. You need a more realistic view of yourself: You canât fix everybodyâs problems. You canât be in more than one place at one time. You canât do everything you want to do. You canât spend money you donât have. You need to learn to relax in your limitations. Anytime you live outside of the limitations of your life, youâre going to get discouraged. Itâs easier to fill your schedule than it is to fulfill your schedule. Itâs always easier to get in than it is to get out. Itâs easier to make a promise than to keep a promise. Itâs always easier to get into debt than it is to get out of debt. Often the first signs of overextending show up in your body. The apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 4:7, âWe have this treasure from God, but we are like clay jars that hold the treasure. This shows that the great power is from God, not from usâ (NCV). In other words, you need to know your limits. You need to recognize your warning signs when youâre overextended and realize youâre just the vessel and God is the power. Our bodies are like clay jarsâweâre all a little cracked because weâve all been dropped here and there. But God often puts his greatest gifts in the weakest people, and that gives us the opportunity to point back to him and say, âThatâs got to be God. That could have only happened through Godâs power.â Throughout history, God has used flawed instruments to put his glory on display. Nothing would get done if God only used perfect peopleâbecause there arenât any! You may think itâs best to hide your weaknesses, but God wants to use them in your life. But first, youâve got to recognize and respect your limitations. Then, you trust in Godâs power and not your own to accomplish his purpose for you. [PLAY todayâs audio teaching from Pastor Rick >>]( Talk It Over - Have you been trying to accomplish more in your life than is humanly possible? What has been the result physically and spiritually?
- In what ways have you seen God use your weaknesses to help you grow spiritually and become more like him?
- Where have you overextended yourself? How can you recognize your limits and set more realistic expectations going forward? Will you follow Jesus today? God proved his goodness through his Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible says, âFor God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal lifeâ (John 3:16 CSB). Are you ready to trust God to fulfill his promise of eternal life? If so, pray this simple prayer: "Dear God, I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesusâ name I pray. Amen." If you just prayed to accept Jesus, please email me at Rick@PastorRick.com and let me know about it. Iâd like to send you some free materials to help you start your journey with Jesus.
