Some people struggle with anger, while others wrestle with worry or gossip or lust. How do you break free from persistent sin? You understand what Jesus has done for you. On the cross, Jesus paid for the penalty of your sins so you donât have to pay for it. All of your sinsâeven the ones you havenât committed yetâhave been paid for on the cross. Jesus not only paid for your sin, but he also paid to break the power of sin in your life. Now you have a power you didnât have beforeâthe power to say no to sin. Itâs more than willpower. Itâs Holy Spirit power! The Bible says in Romans 8:2, âThe power of the life-giving Spiritâand this power is mine through Christ Jesusâhas freed me from the vicious circle of sin and deathâ (TLB). If youâre a Christian, you know Jesus died to pay for your sin. Thatâs the Good News. And if that was all there was, that would still be the best news in the world. But when he died on the cross, Jesus also took our old sin nature and gave us a new nature, one that no longer has to live in persistent sin. The Bible teaches, âWe know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sinâ (Romans 6:6 NLT). Sin no longer has any power in your life. A dead person canât be tempted! That old nature canât be tempted, and since it died with Christ, you can be confident that you also share in his new life. Willpower will never be enough to break the power of sin in your life. But thanks to Jesus, you have more than enough power in the Holy Spirit to resist temptation and break the vicious circle of sin and death. [PLAY todayâs audio teaching from Pastor Rick >>]( Talk It Over - What sin has remained persistent in your life even after you became a Christian?
How do you access the power of the Holy Spirit when you face temptation? - In what ways do we still live like âslaves to sinâ even though our old natures have been crucified with Christ? Will you follow Jesus today? God proved his goodness through his Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible says, âFor God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal lifeâ (John 3:16 CSB). Are you ready to trust God to fulfill his promise of eternal life? If so, pray this simple prayer: "Dear God, I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesusâ name I pray. Amen.â If you just prayed to accept Jesus, please email me at Rick@PastorRick.com and let me know about it. Iâd like to send you some free materials to help you start your journey with Jesus.
