But why in the world would anybody risk honesty? Because itâs worth the risk. God says there are four benefits of being honest about your feelings, your faults, and your fears. You get emotional healing. The Bible says in James 5:16, âAdmit your faults to one another and pray for each other so that you may be healedâ (TLB). There is a big difference between forgiveness and emotional healing. If you need forgiveness for something in your life, all you need to do is confess it to God. Emotional healing comes from telling somebody else. You get a fresh start. Proverbs 28:13 says, âA man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful. But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chanceâ (TLB). One of the most helpful things you can do in your small group is help people forgive themselves. A lot of people need somebody to say, âYouâve admitted it to God? Then you are forgiven. Youâve confessed it? Then you are forgiven. Let it go.â You get Godâs power to change. âHumble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honorâ (James 4:10 NLT). How does this work? The Bible says that God resists the proud, but he gives grace to the humble. Godâs grace is the power to change. When you get Godâs grace, you can change the things youâve always wanted to change in your life. But it only comes through humility, and humility comes through honesty. You get deeper fellowship. The Bible says, âBut if we live in the lightâjust as he is in the lightâthen we have fellowship with one anotherâ (1 John 1:7 GNT). We think that if weâre open about our fears, hang-ups, imperfections, and secret faults, people are going to think less of us. The opposite is true! The more honest you are, the more people like you and want to be with you. Many people have realized, âMy life is messed up. Iâve got some serious hang-ups, habits, bad responses, and bad relationships. Thereâs no way I could admit to all of the bad stuff in my life.â God wants to turn your hurt into healing. Then he wants to use you in the lives of other people. Heâs just waiting for you to surrender. [PLAY todayâs audio teaching from Pastor Rick >>]( Talk It Over - Is it sometimes harder to admit your mistakes to people within Godâs family? Why do you think this is?
- What do you need to accept forgiveness for so that you can move forward to emotional healing?
- What does it mean to âlive in the lightâ (1 John 1:7)? God wants you in his family God made you to love you, and one of the places you see that most clearly is on the cross. Through Jesusâ death and resurrection, God made it possible for you to become part of his family for eternity. No matter what youâve done or where youâve been, youâve got a place in Godâs forever family ready and waiting for you. The invitation is wide open. Just believe and receive. Are you ready? Hereâs a prayer you can start with: âDear God, I know when I die, Iâm going to give an account of my life to you. I know I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want that to change, starting right now. I want to turn away from my sins and toward you. âThank you for sending Jesus to die for all that Iâve done wrong so that I donât have to pay the penalty. I know I donât deserve your forgiveness. I know only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place. âJesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I ask you to save me and make me more like you. In Jesusâ name I pray. Amen.â If you just prayed to accept Jesus, please email me at Rick@PastorRick.com and let me know about it. Iâd like to send you some free materials to help you start your journey with Jesus.
