Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.â Colossians 3:13 (NLT) Showing grace to others is what God wants us to do, but itâs not always easy because weâre so often focused on ourselves. Itâs easier sometimes to be selfish instead of gracious. Maybe you see the slow clerk at the grocery store as an interruption to your day rather than somebody who might be struggling to keep his jobâor who just got the worst news of his life. You may see a family member whoâs struggling right now as a drain on you rather than someone who feels hopeless over a desperate situation. Or you see the person who cut you off on the freeway as your worst enemy rather than someone in need of Godâs love. We all need Godâs love. Thatâs why Jesus Christ came into this world. He came to show people grace. The ultimate way God does this is through forgiveness. And the ultimate way he asks you to show grace to other people is by forgiving them. Colossians 3:13 says, âMake allowance for each otherâs faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive othersâ (NLT). People often ask me, âHow can I find the strength to forgive? I donât have it in me.â I donât have it in me either! The only place Iâve ever found the strength to forgive is in remembering how much Jesus has forgiven me. When I remember that, then he gives me the strength and grace to forgive others. Clara Barton, who founded the Red Cross, was reminded by a friend of an especially cruel thing that someone had done to her years before. Barton seemed not to recall it, and the friend asked, âDonât you remember?â Her famous reply was, âNo, I distinctly remember forgetting it.â What do you need to forget? If you donât forgive, youâre not going to enjoy Godâs vision for the rest of your life, because unforgiveness will keep you stuck in the past. Forgiveâand then get on with your life. This doesnât mean there shouldnât be consequences for what somebody did to you. It just means that you let go of your anger and hurt and give it to God so that you can move on with Godâs purpose for your life. When that seems impossibleâwhen you feel like you canât be gracious toward someoneâremember this: Jesus forgave you. Remembering the grace God has shown you will give you the strength to be gracious to and forgive others. [PLAY todayâs audio teaching from Pastor Rick >>]( Talk It Over - How does forgiving someone affect the other person? How does it affect you?
- How do resentment and bitterness keep you from fulfilling your purpose?
- What is something you need to forgive and let go of so that you can move on with Godâs purpose for your life? Have you received Godâs forgiveness? No matter what youâve done or where youâve been, youâve got a place in Godâs forever family ready and waiting for you. The invitation is wide open. Just believe and receive. Are you ready? Hereâs a prayer you can start with: âDear God, I know when I die, Iâm going to give an account of my life to you. I know I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want that to change, starting right now. I want to turn away from my sins and toward you. âThank you for sending Jesus to die for all that Iâve done wrong so that I donât have to pay the penalty. I know I donât deserve your forgiveness. I know only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place. âJesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I humbly ask you to save me. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe you will keep your promise to save me instantly, certainly, completely, and eternally. In Jesusâ name I pray. Amen.â If you just prayed to accept Jesus, please email me at Rick@PastorRick.comand let me know about it. Iâd like to send you some free materials to help you start your journey with Jesus. The post [Forgive Because Youâre Forgiven]( appeared first on [Pastor Rick's Daily Hope](.
