[Pamela Pugh for Congress]( Dear {NAME}, I’m reaching out today because I’m angry. And don’t get me started on the Angry Black Woman stereotype. Right now, I deserve to be angry, and so do my supporters and campaign staff. here’s why: Yesterday, our supporters in Michigan’s 8th District started texting me screenshots of a racist push poll that one of our opponents or their allies was sending out. As you can see, the poll highlighted each of my opponent’s impressive career achievements. Then, the poll reduced my life’s work in public service to a SINGLE sentence… And they didn't even get the facts straight. I expected that my bio would also highlight my work as an advocate, my unique position as the only Black candidate who is a public health expert and scientist with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Master of Science and Doctorate of Public Health, or even highlight all the work I have done to protect Saginaw and Genesee Counties as a public health official, where I’ve constantly put people above politics. But as you can see, apparently they ran out of ink. Let me be clear — I am a woman of faith, and I refuse to harbor hatred. However, I will not tolerate this disrespect or misinformation. My commitment to public service, advocacy for marginalized communities, and expertise in education and health policy are undeniable and should not be erased. {NAME}, as a Black woman running for Congress, this is one of the many ways I’ve realized I’m not getting a fair shake – whether it’s treatment by the national party and the DCCC, my fellow candidates, the fact that I don’t have a network of deep-pocketed max-out donors at the ready, and the fact that Black women running for office in America statistically raise the least amount of money of anyone running for office – full stop. [That’s why I need your help right now, {NAME}. Please rush a grassroots donation to help us fight back against the establishment and make sure primary voters know the FACTS before our August 6, 2024 election day →]( If you've stored your info with ActBlue Express, we'll process your contribution instantly: [DONATE $8]( [DONATE $20.24]( [DONATE $100]( [ANOTHER AMOUNT]( The slights I’ve received this week haven’t just been confined to racist push polls. At the first debate of this race on Tuesday night, I spoke to the crowd about my passion for public service and how I will govern as a person of faith and purpose, standing up for our marginalized communities. I defended my policy expertise in education and health, as I was dismissed and met with quips about how I don't understand budget processes, or value the Constitution. I can handle my opponents in debate, and I can even handle the lack of support from the DCCC and establishment donors. That’s all possible because of your grassroots support, {NAME}. The coincidence isn’t lost on me that this week marked BLACK WOMEN’S EQUAL PAY DAY – A day that highlights how Black women have to work 7 months longer than white men to achieve pay equity. I’ve seen the inequity in our political system on full display in this election cycle firsthand. And as a Black woman, it does become daunting having to combat prejudices big and small. I worked hard for my education and I've dedicated my life and career to serving our communities in Flint and Saginaw. So today, I woke up with a renewed sense of confidence to stand up and fight for ALL PEOPLE. As I am about to start calls tonight to donors to fund the last leg of this race, I needed to reach out to you and ask for your donation to fight against the establishment forces who don’t want to see us succeed. {NAME}, if you can help, rush a donation right now using this link: [secure.actblue.com/donate/pugh-email-2024-july]( My campaign is historic. If elected, I would be the first Black woman elected to Congress in mid-Michigan history. This isn’t something we’ve highlighted too often because I think my skin color is evident when you meet me. I’ve preferred to focus on my qualifications and experience. Clearly, our opposition is scared to tell the truth about me, because voters can see I’m the fighter who speaks truth to power about much of the establishment nonsense that has been corroding our Democratic Party and our appeal to voters. [Can you give $10 right now so we can continue to fund our path to victory with only 26 days left until our August 6 primary election? Give $10 right now if you can help →]( Thanks for your help and your support, – Dr. Pamela Pugh --------------------------------------------------------------- I’m Dr. Pamela Pugh, and I’m a Saginaw native running for Congress in Michigan's 8th District. I've spent my career fighting to improve the lives of Michigan residents through public health initiatives, and as the Chief Public Health Advisor for Flint I played a pivotal role in standing alongside Flint residents during the water crisis. As a public servant, I currently serve as the President of the Michigan State Board of Education, a statewide elected position. I believe in standing up for the people and fighting for our democracy, our children, and our future. I've lived in Michigan's 8th District for my entire life and it will be the honor of a lifetime to represent my community in the House of Representatives. I'm relying on grassroots contributions to fuel my campaign to victory — [so please chip in what you can right now!]( Our email list is an important tool for us to reach Democrats and activists in Michigan and around the country.
