I want to tell you about the City where I grew up [Pamela Pugh for Congress]( {NAME} - this is Dr. Pamela Pugh running for Congress in Michigan’s 8th District. I want to tell you about the City where I grew up – and where I live to this day: Saginaw, Michigan. Saginaw as a city and a metro area is not without its problems, including income inequality and resulting disparities. In fact, our city and surrounding suburbs are a microcosm of many of the difficulties America still faces today that I hope to go to Congress to work on fixing. While disparities exist in housing, environmental quality, jobs, access to opportunities, and so many more areas, today I want to highlight educational disparities in Saginaw: Last month, Saginaw’s public school district was identified as having the largest differences in the entire country between the poverty level of our students and neighboring suburban school districts. Saginaw City School District is home to nearly 5,200 students, 81 percent of them students of color with a poverty rate of 50%. Meanwhile, neighboring districts are 80-90% white with poverty rates of 5-10%. This huge economic and racial divide between adjacent school districts shows how educational inequality persists today. I know how to begin to fix problems with huge income inequality disparities like these because I grew up in Saginaw and have worked in public health and education. As the President of the State Board of Education, I’m working every day to help reverse these disparities in the achievement gaps that plague Michigan’s education system and America’s public education system as a whole. [{NAME}, please pitch in a donation to send me to Congress and I’ll put my expertise to work fighting for working families to help create an equal playing field for those in poverty and the middle class while asking those with more than enough resources to pay their fair share →]( [DONATE]( for your help here, – Pamela Pugh for Congress --------------------------------------------------------------- I’m Dr. Pamela Pugh, and I’m a Saginaw native running for Congress in Michigan's 8th District. I've spent my career fighting to improve the lives of Michigan residents through public health initiatives, and as the Chief Public Health Advisor for Flint I played a pivotal role in standing alongside Flint residents during the water crisis. As a public servant, I currently serve as the President of the Michigan State Board of Education, a statewide elected position. I believe in standing up for the people and fighting for our democracy, our children, and our future. I've lived in Michigan's 8th District for my entire life and it will be the honor of a lifetime to represent my community in the House of Representatives. I'm relying on grassroots contributions to fuel my campaign to victory — [so please chip in what you can right now!]( Our email list is an important tool for us to reach Democrats and activists in Michigan and around the country.
