The president didn't end up speaking until around 9:30 p.m., nearly 30 minutes after he was scheduled to begin. Daily Caller White House Correspondent Reagan Reese [lays out the scene]( from the Capitol Building on Thursday night with staple Caller reportage, the SOTU "wrap": President Joe Biden set aside immigration, inflation and crime to lead his 2024 State of the Union speech with a trio of issues that hardly register in polls of the American people. Within the first five minutes of his 2024 State of the Union address, Biden spent his time discussing the Ukraine-Russian war and the January 6th Capitol riot before moving on to discuss the Covid-19 pandemic. At least an hour after the president was scheduled to take the podium, he finally touched on concerns about his age, the southern border crisis and answered to the growing calls to say Laken Riley's name, the deceased 22-year-old who was allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant. The three other notable moments include the moment lawmakers [busted out]( laughing when Biden claimed he "delivered results in fiscally responsible ways," a statement that almost reads as parody. Sitting behind Biden, Speaker Mike Johnson appeared astonished when the president made the claim. A Gold Star father was [escorted out]( of the building after he interrupted Biden's speech to yell about the American marines who were killed during Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. The father stood up in the guest gallery, shouting, “Remember Abbey Gate! US Marines!" Finally, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who earlier in the night handed Biden a button that made some reference to the border crisis or Laken Riley's murder, [interrupted]( the president's speech to practically bully him to say Laken's name. "Lincoln Riley, an innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal, that's right. But how many thousands of people [are] being killed by legals," Biden said. "To her parents, I say my heart goes out to you, having lost children myself." Coming from Biden, however, the condolences felt pressured, hollow and ultimately meaningless. HOT OFF THE PRESS Take It Cheesy: Doritos [nearly made a catastrophic marketing decision]( on par with Bud Light's hiring of Dylan Mulvaney by associating with a transgender influencer in Spain who made several egregious posts online, including one in which the influencer appeared to glorify pedophilia. After the tweets were resurfaced by several news organizations, including the Daily Caller, the Doritos brand severed all ties with the influencer. COVID Comeback: Shelley Luther, a salon owner who was jailed for violating draconian lockdown restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, [unseated]( an incumbent state representative Reggie Smith for Texas’ House District 62 seat in the GOP primary Tuesday night. Luther was sentenced to seven days in jail in May 2020 after she refused to comply with order to shut down her business. “I have hairstylists that are going hungry because they would rather feed their kids,” Luther said at the time before serving jail time. “So sir, if you think the law is more important than kids getting fed, then please go ahead with your decision. But I am not going to shut the salon.” House vs. Hunter: [According to an exclusive report]( from Daily Caller reporters Reagan Reese and Henry Rodgers, House Republicans are giving President Joe Biden's son a chance to publicly testify on Capitol Hill after he previously indicated he would be interested in such an arrangement. Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer invited Hunter to testify alongside his former business associates, Devon Archer, Tony Bobulinski and Jason Galanis. “Given his repeated calls for a public hearing, we fully expect him to appear for a scheduled hearing on [March 20th] alongside his former business associates," a source familiar told the Daily Caller.
