[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. Twenty years ago as a reporter starting out at The Chariho Times, I drove out to a home in Hopkinton near the Connecticut border. At the time a dispute between Rhode Island and Connecticut had started over the actual border between the two states and this home would find itself no longer with an Ocean State address. Since then I've written thousands of stories and had forgotten about this particular one, until last week. While talking with Journal reporter Katie Landeck about what she was planning to write this week she started talking about a story on how Rhode Island's borders were formed. That discussion triggered my memory and the story, it turned out, was already part of Katie's plan. [6] A geodetic disk embedded in a boulder marks the border with Connecticut. John Kostrzewa With the 20th anniversary of that dispute in mind, Katie looks back at just how Rhode Island's borders with Connecticut and Massachusetts were formed. [It's a tale involving rods, court battles and, yes, shorelines.]( ⢠Have you done your taxes yet or are you procrastinating? If you're in line for a refund or hoping to get one, when can you expect to get it? [The Journal's Wheeler Cowperthwaite talked with state officials about the current tax season to find out.]( Among some of the good news, the average tax return has increased and if you have a question the number of calls and average call time with the Division of Taxation is down. ⢠Generally people find seaglass or pieces of driftwood on the beach, but in Little Compton the possibilities are far more exotic. Thanks to 31 rail-car containers breaking loose from a cargo barge delivering goods for the old Bradlees department store in 1993 the beaches were littered with clothing, electronics and teddy bears. It turns out those bears are still washing ashore. [The Journal's Jack Perry caught up with a man who made such a find recently and talked with people in town about the history of the Norfolk Trader cargo boat.]( ⢠The Division 1 state basketball champions were crowned Wednesday night. As National Pi Day approaches on March 14th (a day in which the organizers encourage to celebrate with actual pies), [Mixbook]( a #1 rated photobook company, ran a survey of 3,000 devoted pie aficionados to discover how far they would be prepared to travel for that perfect pie experience. Appearantly Rhode Islanders would travel 1 hour and 52 minutes for a slice of coconut custard pie. "Securing the 27th position, Rhode Island's Coconut Custard Pie is a creamy, tropical delight that offers a slice of coastal serenity with every bite. This pie combines the smooth, rich texture of custard with the sweet, nutty flavor of coconut, all encased in a crisp, golden crust. The result is a dessert that's both indulgent and comforting, reminiscent of Rhode Island's seaside charm and culinary ingenuity. " [TODAY'S WEATHER]( ð§ï¸ Breezy and cooler with rain and drizzle.
