[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. From fine dining to clam shacks, Rhode Island has become a food paradise. There's something for everyone and the state's restaurants have earned recognition from publications across the country. Of course, it's nice to be seen and those honors should carry some weight, but the truth is no one knows better how good we have it than us locals. Sure an appearance on the Food Network may result in long lines at a restaurant or reservations becoming harder to get after making a national "Best of" list, but we already know the best time to go and in some cases don't even need that reservation. It's that level of expertise that has led us to partner with our sister publications in the USA Today Network to develop our own best restaurants list, which includes two from right here in Rhode Island. The Journal's Antonia Farzan found out.]( • For 95 years a law has been in place allowing defendants to waive their right to a jury trial and instead have the case heard by a judge. A new bill could change that. [The Journal's Katie Mulvaney has the details on the bill filed in the state Senate]( that would bring the state in line with federal court practice and 31 other states, plus the District of Columbia by requiring the state's consent to waive a jury trial. While the practice is in use elsewhere, not everyone is in favor in Rhode Island. • Old Friar favorite Rick Pitino was back at the Civic Center/Dunk/AMP on Tuesday night and [The Journal's Bill Koch is taking a look back at the coach's legacy in what may be his final coaching stop at St. John's.]( WORTH A READ 📰 [Lloyd Austin speaks for first time]( since latest hospitalization, pledges to support Ukraine 🦈 [Could a shark have impregnated a stingray]( at a North Carolina aquarium?
