[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. We all hear about the big topics discussed at the State House every year. Gun control, the budget, whatever hot topic of the year legislators are addressing during a particular session. But there's also hundreds of bills we hear much less if not at all. That doesn't mean they don't keep legislators busy. That may change in 2024. The Journal's Katherine Gregg reports that House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi has asked House members to cap the number of bills they file this session to 15 each in the coming session. The request comes after a total of 2,670 were introduced during the 2023 session. Of those just 398 new laws and 65 "local acts" took effect. [Independent Man inside RI State House] The Independent Man moves to his temporary home inside the Rhode Island State House Patrick Anderson While it may seem restrictive, Gregg does note the state Senate limits annual submissions to 25 bills per member. This does have the potential to affect some House members more than others. Gregg looks at who filed the most bills in 2023 and the types of filings that don't count against the limit.
