[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. Daily stories are coming out of the Middle East as the war between Israel and Hamas continues. Horrific images of the war-torn region have become almost commonplace. Here in the United States instances of antisemitism are on the rise and for many in the Jewish community fear is a daily occurrence. Yet, last night marked the beginning of Hanukkah. As The Journal's Paul Parker found, with all that's taking place as the war rages on, it doesn't exactly feel like a time to celebrate for some in Rhode Island's Jewish community. [5K2A8119.JPG] Freda Ronkin, of Bubbie's Market & Deli, Providence, was turning out some 4,000 latkes Thursday in the kitchen at Providence Hebrew Day School. Paul Edward Parker Before the start of the Jewish holiday, Paul spoke with those who were about to celebrate the holiday to understand better how they were feeling at this moment. Some recognized the difficulty to enjoy the holiday, while others had a different reaction. They say they will find lightness in the dark.
