[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. As a kid playing youth sports in South Kingstown our candy fundraiser sales weren't the typical collection of Hershey bars and Kit Kats. Instead, we'd tote around cases of Sweenor's Chocolate bars. Generally, it didn't take long to sell out. Tucked away on a side street in Wakefield, a trip to Sweenor's was quite literally like being a kid in a candy store. I'm not the biggest chocolate person, but could more than happily indulge in the sweet of my choice. One thing I never knew about was the annual tradition of making candy canes by hand. Kris Craig, The Providence Journal It's a labor of love that pulls in members of the Sweenor family to make it happen and the whole process was recently captured by Journal food and dining editor Gail Ciampa and photographer Kris Craig. As Gail reports, for two days out of the year, the family pulls on the sugar mixture, adding food coloring and flavoring along the way to create the two different flavors. By the end of the process, they'll have made some 2,400 candy canes. Why do they keep the tradition alive and how do they do it?
