Before my dad passed away, while I talked to him frequently, I made a point to reach out to him on Veterans Day each year and just say "Thanks for your service." That often was followed by more conversation about his service and why he made the commitment. Yes, it's a small gesture, but my dad, a Vietnam War veteran, always appreciated it. This weekend there are plenty of ways to honor those who served. From parades to ceremonies to simply just saying "thank you" it doesn't take much to appreciate those who risked their all for the safety of us as a nation. [Vet Day Parade] The North Kingstown Veterans Day Parade proceeds down Brown Street in Wickford Village. For those that may have missed it Daily Briefing readers were asked how long the North-South trail in Rhode Island is. With the trail running slightly more than 77 miles, I accepted answers of 77 and 78 miles, of which there were lots of responses. After taking all the names, putting them in a random generator, and then getting a hand from my 9-year-old to spin the wheel, the winner is Donna L.
