[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. I'm pretty positive you don't have it circled on your calendar, but this week marks one year since I took over the Daily Briefing, giving me the opportunity to help start your day with the biggest headlines happening in Rhode Island and sharing some of my own personal reflections on the topic. It's been a joy to hear from readers through email and in person and receive feedback. If you haven't yet shared any thoughts with me feel free to reach out anytime. Your thoughts â good or bad â are always welcome. One of the best parts of the job is getting to hear directly from readers and meet them. This past weekend provided me with one of those opportunities. On Saturday morning, we hosted a guided hike with Walking RI columnist John Kostrzewa for about 20 subscribers at the Maxwell Mays Preserve in Coventry. It was a great way to start off a rain-free weekend. [Providence Journal hike Maxwell Mays Preserve] A group of Providence Journal subscribers hike through the Maxwell Mays Preserve on Saturday, Nov. 4. Will Richmond/The Providence Journal In addition to trekking through the woods, John's guidance included stops along the way to give tips on what to look for when hiking, such as trees gnawed by beavers or how giant boulders found a place in the woods where they seemingly didn't belong. He also shared the occasional history lesson on the preserve. It's something we're hoping to be able to do again in the spring. Now in honor of the one-year anniversary of my time with the Daily Briefing, I have a signed copy of John's recently published book, "Walking Rhode Island: 40 Hikes for Nature and History Lovers" to give away. To qualify, email me at frichmond@gannett.com with the answer to this question. The winner will be selected randomly from those who answer correctly by 9 a.m. on Thursday and announced in Friday's Daily Briefing. How long is the North-South Trail in Rhode Island? Again, thanks for reading, and hope to hear from you soon.
