[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. I know I may sound old but the timing of the Rhode Island high school football playoffs just seems wrong to me. For non-fans, the playoffs begin this week with matchups in Division II and III taking place to kick off the postseason, with Division I and IV games starting next week. I recall as a student at South Kingstown High School some – gulp – 25-plus years ago that Super Bowls weren't played until early December. Now the season is over in mid-November, except for the annual Thanksgiving games, which are now left to feel like an end-of-season exhibition. My personal feelings however shouldn't take anything away from the kids and coaches that will be competing during the next couple of weeks. [_C4_1037.jpg] Brayden Rogers, North Kingstown football Eric Rueb / Providence Journal They've had great seasons and a run through the playoffs is an incredible way to finish off the year. For those of you who haven't been paying attention to the R.I. high school football season, don't worry, our Eric Rueb has you covered. Before the playoffs begin, [Eric has his weekly power rankings ready to roll]( to give you a guide to who he thinks is the best of the best across the state. Yes, state powers top the list, but schools from across multiple divisions are well represented. Eric also has [the full schedule of playoff games laid out in an easy-to-read guide]( so you can find when your hometown team, alma mater or grandson will be hitting the gridiron. It may feel early for high school playoffs, but that won't stop games from being played, so let's get ready for some football.
