[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. Happy Halloween. The day is finally here and if you have kids or live in a busy neighborhood there's a good chance candy is going to be a big part of your upcoming night. It turns out that based on information collected by [candystore.com]( the three most popular kinds of candy handed out by Rhode Islanders are M&Ms, Twix and candy corn. We've prepared to hand out a mixed collection of chocolate and non-chocolate goodies including the usual stand-bys such as M&Ms, Snickers, Butterfingers, Reece's Cups and more. And since we usually put all the candy out and ask our visiting trick-or-treaters to only take two, the bowl will be filled with leftover Whoopers. [Top three Halloween candies to make your house the favorite this year] Do you love or hate candy corn? Getty While some members of the Providence Journal newsroom have declared their love for candy corn, the good news is they won't be handing it out. But they are ready to give out the goodies. I asked some of our reporters, photographers and editors what they're giving out this year. Here's what they said. Antonia Farzan, reporter: I am handing out nearly-expired candy that I purchased at A Little Bit of Everything in Pawtucket for pennies on the dollar. It's time these children learn about Yankee thrift. It still tastes good! I tested it all Bill Corey, sports editor: Kit Kat, Reese's PB cups and Three Musketeers over the line in Westport (Massachusetts). The veteran move is to only buy the stuff you like, and then hope you don't get that many trick-o-treaters, so you can "properly dispose" of all the sugar. Kurt Mayer, editor : In the northeast corner of Providence, Halloween began a month ago and has grown to candemic proportions. On some streets, half the porches are decked out and you can almost smell the arsenals of chocolate inside. Hundreds of kids from Pawtucket and Central Falls come down to make the rounds. It's soooo much fun. From 6-8 p.m., the porch is rarely empty. Our 14-pound lineup this year includes party-size bags of Reese's cups and Hershey, Kit-Kat, Milky Way and Nestle Crunch bars. With any luck, we'll run out right about the time teenagers without costumes show up. Wheeler Cowperthwaite, reporter: Tootsie rolls, small lollipops and candy sticks, all the things I could get at Dollar Tree, since I wasn't smart like Antonia. Kris Craig, photographer: We get quite a few kids from our neighborhood and from Providence (lots of good trick or treatin’ here I guess.) They get a mixed bag of Kit Kats and other little chocolate bars and Nerds and Smarties so I can have the leftovers. Best part is the significant other buys it all. Kathy Gregg, reporter: Peter is the Halloween door-opener in our house. He hands out Twix and Milky Ways because that's what HE likes to eat. Lynne Sullivan, executive editor: Since two of my kids have moved out, I needed to buy candy that I would not eat in weak moments during the leadup to Halloween. So Tootsie pops and packs of gummy bears it is! My husband caught me eating a Tootsie pop the other day and asked, "I thought you didn't like them ..." but he can mind his own business, thank you very much. Jack Perry, reporter: I'm handing out Kit Kats, but like Antonia, I've been testing them, so there might be none left by Tuesday night. Katie Mulvaney, reporter: Butterfingers (our fave), Reese's peanut butter cups and Snickers. Katie Landeck, reporter: Whatever is still left on the local Stop & Shop shelves at 3:30 p.m. on Halloween. Order of preference will be Almond Joys, Butterfingers, Reece's Cup, Junior Mints and then truly just whatever is available. Bill Koch, sports reporter: No candy at my place. I'll be out and it's a condo unit – no kids off the street. My favorite was always a 3 Musketeers bar. I'd trade for those whenever I could. Milky Way was the runner-up Donna McGarry, editor: This year, to avoid the temptation of eating any of the candy, we're handing out small bags of pretzels and cookies (Oreos, Chips Ahoys and Nutter Butter). My all-time favorite is anything Reese's! Or peanut Butter M&Ms. While there are lots of treats to be had from The Journal staff, I'm not going to say where Antonia lives, because let's face it, you've to have some tricks in your bag at the end of the night too.
