[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. I'm probably not the only one that has found themselves lost in videos posted to social media of people exploring abandoned buildings, especially when some footage is included. There's something about the combination of history, untold stories and â let's face it â trespassing that creates compelling storytelling. When there's a connection to the place being explored it always helps to build intrigue. [Ann and Hope Birds Eye View.jpg] Interviews for David Lawlor's Ann & Hope documentary were filmed in a former office inside the historic mill. Courtesy of David Lawlor / Run of the Mill Certainly, David Lawlor shares my fascination. The Journal's Antonia Farzan recently caught up with Lawlor after he released a documentary on the abandoned Ann & Hope Mill in Cumberland, which is slated to become a 241-unit apartment building with ground-level commercial space and a beer garden. While Lawlor has turned his work on the Ann & Hope site into a film, he's been capturing videos from old mills across the state since 2020, posting the work on his YouTube channel. Along the way, he's helped to preserve some of Rhode Island's history. [Check out Antonia's story and learn more about Lawlor's work.]( ⢠Speaking of documentaries. The Rhode Island Press Association is presenting an exclusive first-time in Rhode Island screening of the critically acclaimed documentary "Storm Lake" followed by a virtual Q&A, which I'll be moderating, with the filmmakers at The Gamm in Warwick this evening at 7 p.m. The film examines "The Storm Lake Times" in Iowa as the family-run newspaper tries "to deliver local news and biting editorials on a shoestring budget for their 3,000 readers."
