The Rhode Island Department of Health reports that some 190 people have been exposed to bats during the month of August, calling it an "unprecedented bat season." The Journal's Jack Perry reports that 4% to 5% of bats have rabies, according to the state Health Department, and bats are the leading cause of rabies deaths in people in the United States, the [U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says]( meaning an "unprecedented bat season" doesn't sound like much fun.
