[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond and this is the Daily Briefing. Schools across the state have started this week, with more to come following the Labor Day holiday, and while kids are going to miss summer vacation – my youngest is already dreading it – there are also plenty of kids that will welcome the stability that being school brings, especially around meals. But for some, there isn't enough relief. The Journal's Amy Russo reports that among Rhode Island households, food insecurity hit 31%, up more than 10% over the previous year and more than triple the level recorded in 2017. Kris Craig, The Providence Journal To at least provide some relief, school leaders and others in the state are continuing to lobby for universal free breakfast and lunch programs in schools. The assistance was made available during the pandemic, but at a cost of roughly $40 million, there hasn't been an appetite to include it in the state budget. Despite that, advocates for a universal free meal program say the fight isn't over. What comes next? [Check out Amy's story for all the details.]( Enjoying the Daily Briefing?
