Wheeler found that in Narragansett vacation rentals were being booked months in advance in past years. Now, a few are staying vacant and often, bookings are happening at the last minute. In Newport, a new owner-occupied requirement has changed the market. Meanwhile, across the state, renters are finding themselves in a position to make demands from rentees. What does this mean for hotels and for those short-term operators?
