[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. Everyone has their favorite sandwich but for me, there's nothing like a good Italian grinder. But the combination of good Italian meats and cheese with lettuce, onions, hot peppers and a splash of oil and vinegar just hits the spot. (A little secret when ordering Italian grinders. If you're not going to eat it right away skip the oil and vinegar and ask for extra hot peppers, they'll provide enough of that briny vinegar taste without making the bread soggy.) And, yes, it's a grinder. Not a sub. Not a hero. Have you ever wondered where the term "grinder" comes from? It certainly doesn't jump out as a name for a sandwich like sub does. [03 Uri Dining] Eric Marshall of Little Compton, RI, a cook at Main Faire dining hall at Hope Commons/URI, slices toasted Italian grinders after taking them out of the oven. Bob Breidenbach, The Providence Journal The Journal's Katie Landeck attempted to find out in our latest edition of "What and Why RI." Turns out there are a couple of connections to Connecticut, but that may not be the link to the name. [Check out Katie's story and see what she found out.]( And when her story makes you hungry, open up the Instagram app on your phone and join our newest page [@Projoeats](. In it, you'll find photos from The Journal staff, posts about our food-related stories and items from Food and Dining editor Gail Ciampa. You may even get the early scoop on where Gail is reporting from as she prepares her latest story on Rhode Island's incredible dining scene. So dig in and I'll apologize in advance if you're always hungry. Enjoying the Daily Briefing? Send me a note to let me know what you think of this newsletter. Your comments are appreciated.
