[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. This is quite the milestone year for South Kingstown as it celebrates its 300th anniversary. For about 22 of those 300 years, it was the place I called home, growing up in the tiny village of Green Hill near the Charlestown border. The seaside town holds many memories for me and has an interesting history. And of course, any place that's been on the map for 300 years is going to compile quite the list of facts some you may know, but some you may be surprised to learn. T[he Journal's Katie Landeck recently dug into the town's history to put together a list of 30 facts about the town,]( some of which I never knew about and taught me something new about my hometown. She also missed a couple that I'll share here. (Some of these may not be official facts.) [Memorialparade Go 03] Members of the Wakefield Rotary Club carry a huge flag down the Memorial Day Parade route in South Kingstown in 2022. Glenn Osmundson/Special to The Providence Journal • South Kingstown is where I met my wife Dyana when we were both camp counselors at the South County YMCA in the summer of 2021. • While the Hannah Robinson Tower served as the delineation mark of traveling too far – if you grew up in South Kingstown you've probably heard someone remark about not driving past the tower – if you were to go somewhere with a group in the days before GPA and smartphones, the tower was where you met. • A section of Narragansett - Jerusalem - can only be accessed from South Kingstown. • I never lost a game of basketball, wiffleball or any other sport to my younger brother. (Don't bother fact-checking this one.) Really, South Kingstown is a great town and not to sound like the Chamber of Commerce, but if you haven't been it's worth the trip. Visit The Ocean Mist for a drink, walk the trails at Trustom Pond or shop along Main Street, whatever you choose you'll be happy you did. From South Kingstown to North Providence The Providence Journal has it covered.
