[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. Memorial Day weekend is just about upon us and for some that means a long weekend, road trips and cookouts. There will also be plenty of ceremonies and parades taking place all weekend long and [The Journal's Katie Landeck has a handy roundup of everything happening across the state.]( If those types of events aren't you're thing I'd suggest taking a trip to the state's Veteran's Ceremony off of Route 2 in Exeter. I had never been to the Veterans Cemetery until 2017 following the passing of my father. [A memorial along the road in the Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. [The Providence Journal, file / Kathy Borchers]] A memorial along the road in the Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. Providence Journal File Photo What I came to find was a place that not only paid homage to personal loved ones but an incredible collection of monuments honoring the state's veterans. In all, there are 31 of these monuments that are dedicated to veterans of specific wars and conflicts. Each one is stunning in its own right. Over the years as my family would visit the cemetery, we came to also stop and look over these monuments. While they are each eye-catching, the ability to draw you in leads to an understanding of those who fought to protect our country. There's a peacefulness that exists in the Veterans Cemetary as opposed to the haunted feeling other cemeteries can possess, offering an opportunity for reflection. Whether it's this weekend or another time make a visit. Even if you don't know someone buried there it will be worth the trip. Paywall bumming you out?
