[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. Especially as the weather gets warmer it's not usual that one of my kids comes home from school and tells me about the latest drill held that day. Unlike my time as a student though there's much more than just fire drills taking place. Instead, there are drills based on school intruders or other safety threats. For them, the exercises have become just about as normal as fire drills were back in my day. I don't have to be the one to tell you about the incidents that have happened at schools around the U.S. or the debate that circulates around school safety. You may even be aware the state made millions of dollars available to make schools safer, but just that money is being spent may be less known. [School Safety 2] All Johnston entry doors have shatterproof safety coverings, shown by Jerri Moon Cantone Cantone, the district's director of facilities and transportation at Johnston. David DelPoio The Journal's Amy Russo had just that question recently and inquired with school districts across R.I. to see what they're doing to make buildings safer. Some of the solutions may seem common by now, such as hiring school resource officers. But districts are also taking additional steps to stay ahead of threats. She also got a first-hand look at what is taking place in the Johnston school district, where systems have been put in place that includes local police.
