[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. It may seem like an obvious statement but being homeless is bad for your health, but the reasons may go beyond what you'd expect. Compared to the average nationwide life expectancy of 77, people who are homeless have a mean age at death of 53. The Journal's Wheeler Cowperthwaite talked with those who provide assistance to Rhode Island's unhoused and those in the health field to better understand how homelessness affects health. [02 encampment] Signs left by homeless people who had been camped out for months in front of the State House were still on display in December 2022 as contractors cleared their tents and other belongings. Patrick Anderson/The Providence Journal His story paints a picture of the trickle-down effect a lack of housing creates for things we take for granted and the problems it causes. While the picture may appear bleak there are solutions being developed to improve health conditions for the state's homeless, which can also lead to savings for health insurers.
