[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. We're a week away from the long Memorial Day weekend and unofficially we're in the clear to plant our vegetable gardens outside. Sure, the past couple of weekends have been warm and filled with sun, but this past week was also a reminder that cold weather and even frost advisories are part of the May equation. While I'm not a full-fledged gardener I try to get a couple of hot pepper plants, tomatoes and herbs like basil and cilantro planted every summer - we've also got a cucumber plant my son gave his mom for Mothers Day to care for - so now is the time to plan. If you're ready to get your garden going too we can help. [Vegetable Basket Aj] A basket of bright, vibrant, healthful cherry tomatoes, long beans, purple and white eggplants, purple onion, spikey green okra, yellow summer squash brought happiness to the gardener who grew them in the garden. Courtesy of Ellen Peffley Each week we bring you a gardening column from Henry Homeyer and fortunately, this week is all about tips for planting a spring garden. If it were only as easy as remove from the pot you bought at a local gardening center and stick in the ground, but it's not so Henry has everything covered from pest control to how to lay out your garden bed to maximize production.
