Also, an investigation clears McKee's former chief of staff, but also criticizes him. [providencejournal.com]( This Just In Wednesday, July 20 [Tweens Gyanna Bey, 12, and Kaia Sherette, 13, of Providence, flip their water soaked hair up and back to form a water droplet heart for their aunt on shore while playing at Governor Notte Park beach in North Providence. Rhode Island is expecting a heat wave that is forecast through Sunday.]( [It's hot, so eat some ice cream, and President Biden has landed]( Also, an investigation clears McKee's former chief of staff, but also criticizes him. Good afternoon and welcome to This Just In. I'm Mike McDermott, managing editor of The Providence Journal. Today is July 20, and it's the day after the MLB All-Star Game, which means, if you're a sports fan, it's the deadest day of the year. It also may be the hottest day that we've had so far this year, with temperatures in the mid-90s in Providence. So you might want to try all 15 places on [Gail Ciampa's list]( of best ice-cream spots in Rhode Island (and nearby Massachusetts). Unusual weather sometimes leads to great photography. And although I don't usually call out the many great photos members of our staff take around the state, I had to do so for [this picture]( by Kris Craig. President Joe Biden landed at T.F. Green Airport, just two miles from where I happen to be typing this newsletter, just after 1 o'clock today and proceeded to Somerset, Massachusetts, for a speech on climate change and renewable energy. [Follow along here]( for live updates from The Providence Journal and our partners at the Herald-News of Fall River. Anthony Silva, the former chief of staff to Gov. Dan McKee, "exercised very poor judgment" but broke no law by repeatedly contacting state and local officials about a permit he was seeking to build a home on a lot covered by wetlands. That was the finding of Attorney General Peter Neronha , who investigated the matter with the state police. Neronha's report, released this morning, found no evidence that McKee himself advocated on behalf of Silva, who resigned last year. McKee's campaign for governor [picked up a key endorsement]( from the United Nurses and Allied Professionals union, representing more than 5,500 members. Raymond "Beaver" Tempest, who served 23 years in prison for a murder he did not commit, suffered a key setback in his attempt to hold the Woonsocket Police Department accountable when a federal judge ruled that [the statute of limitations had passed]( for most of Tempest's claims of abuse. Sewer-system operator Narragansett Bay Commission [says it paid a $250,000 ransom]( to end a recent cyberattack against its computer systems. The Rhode Island Department of Health reported one coronavirus-related death and 311 additional cases of COVID-19, along with 2,987 negative tests, for a 9.4% positive rate. There were 74 COVID-positive patients in Rhode Island hospitals at last count, the same number as reported yesterday, with fewer than five in intensive care. Rhode Island has reported an average of 273 new cases a day over the last seven days, down 5% from a week ago and up 33% from two weeks ago. And finally, find out which four players with Rhode Island ties [heard their names called]( this week during the Major League Baseball amateur draft. But enough about sports, because there are none on tonight anyway. Have a great night regardless.
