Also, Nathan Carman appears in court. [providencejournal.com]( This Just In Wednesday, May 11 [David and Crystal Brown at their West Warwick home.]( [An accomplishment years in the making, and Dr. Fanale stepping down...]( Also, Nathan Carman appears in court. Good afternoon and welcome to This Just In. I'm Mike McDermott, managing editor of The Providence Journal. Today is May 11; on this date 12 years ago my younger son Jonah was born, which is an important date in Rhode Island history as far as I'm concerned. College graduation season is hitting its stride, and you've got to love stories like this: After three attempts in which life got in the way, a husband and wife from Warwick are set to graduate from CCRI; and they'll do it together tomorrow. Education reporter Linda Borg has the story of [David and Crystal Brown's special achievement](. This story had some special meaning to me too, because in true Rhode Island fashion, David was Jonah's soccer coach for a couple years. For the second time in a matter of weeks, a powerful local health-care executive has announced plans to step down. Dr. James Fanale [will retire]( as head of Care New England early next year. Fanale's announcement comes a month after Dr. Timothy Babineau said he was leaving Lifespan, the state's largest health-care system, and three months after the attorney general effectively killed a plan to merge the two systems. Nathan Carman, a 28-year-old man who was rescued at sea in 2016, [pleaded not guilty]( in a federal courthouse in Vermont to charges of killing his mother to inherit his family's estate. The Rhode Island Department of Health reported one coronavirus-related deaths and 990 additional cases of COVID-19, along with 9,931 negative tests, for a 9.1% positive rate. There were 84 COVID-positive patients in Rhode Island hospitals at last count, down from 93 reported yesterday. Rhode Island has reported an average of 748 new cases a day over the last seven days, up 34% from a week ago and up 84% from two weeks ago. North Kingstown's interim superintendent [is reorganizing the athletics department and requiring sexual harassment training]( for coaches in the wake of recent allegations of misconduct. A Woonsocket man [was sentenced to life plus 15 years in prison]( for the fatal 2019 shooting of a 17-year-old girl, who was not his intended target. Much-maligned Patriots wide receiver Nelson Agholor [hopes to have a breakout season]( in his second year with New England, but as an Eagles fan I have definitely heard that one before.  The classy Al Horford [led the Celtics to a huge victory]( in Game 4 on Monday night, but if that's going to mean anything, Boston needs to take care of business tonight at home against the Bucks. Tip-off is nice and early at 7 o'clock, and the game's on TNT. If you're looking for delicious food that might not be what you're used to seeing in Rhode Island, Gail Ciampa wants you to know about [this Persian restaurant]( in Pawtucket. And speaking of Pawtucket, an epic beer festival [is coming to town]( next weekend. And finally, if you live in or are planning to be in Narragansett tomorrow, you might notice some disturbing scenes by the water, but don't worry: [It's just a drill]( Have a great night.
