Also, what's on tap for Labor Day weekend. [providencejournal.com]( This Just In Friday, September 3 [Water Street in Warren on Thursday afternoon.]( [What we know about a deadly day in Warren]( Also, what's on tap for Labor Day weekend. Good afternoon and welcome to This Just In. I'm Mike McDermott, managing editor of The Providence Journal. It's nice to have a holiday weekend to look forward to – without a whole lot of rain in the forecast. Jack Perry has [details on the Labor Day outlook]( in Rhode Island, including the long-awaited return of WaterFire in downtown Providence. We're learning more about [a deadly afternoon in Warren]( yesterday that started inside the Italian American Club. It was there where Brian Remy, a well-known member of the community who served as assistant chief of the volunteer fire department, was fatally shot and another man was injured. The man police believe to have been the shooter, Michael Ouellette , died soon afterward after an exchange of gunfire with Bristol police. Acquaintances say Ouellette was a quahogger [who had known Remy for years]( because both were regulars at the club. A young man who died last weekend in a Providence shooting was a budding entrepreneur who had started a clothing line called Rise Above Hate, and spoken out against violence. Andrei Bonilla was, a member of his family said, ["truly the very best of us."]( The Rhode Island Department of Health reported one coronavirus-related death and 354 additional cases of COVID-19, along with 13,086 negative tests, for a 2.6% positive rate. There were 148 COVID-positive patients in Rhode Island hospitals at last count, down from 149 reported yesterday, with 18 in intensive care. The state's coronavirus case growth has been essentially plateaued for the last two weeks. Rhode Island has reported an average of 292 new cases a day over the last seven days, up 3% from a week ago and down 4% from two weeks ago. Anthony Silva, who just recently resigned as chief of staff to Gov. Dan McKee, [has been fined $1,000]( an unregistered construction business that he listed on his most recent annual financial disclosure filing. That didn't take long: A street in Portsmouth that was largely destroyed by flooding from the remnants of Hurricane Ida [is passable once again]( Nurses at Fatima Hospital have [overwhelmingly voted to ratify a new contract]( Want to check out a new spot for food and drinks? [Try The Guild's new taproom and gastro pub in Warren]( College football is back, and there's a big intrastate matchup on the schedule this weekend, [as Bryant visits URI](. Believe it or not, it's the first time these two teams have played each other since 2002. It looks like former Providence College star Kris Dunn won't be returning to New England after all. Just about a month after acquiring Dunn in a trade, and before he ever got to wear a green uniform in anger, the Celtics [have traded him away]( to the Memphis Grizzlies. And finally, [this week's Walking RI column]( is all about a destination that I visited not too long ago, one that offers lovely water views and prime bird watching in Tiverton. Have a great holiday weekend. I'll be back in your inbox Tuesday.
