Also, a party with Judge Frank Caprio. Good afternoon and welcome to This Just In. I'm Mike McDermott, managing editor of The Providence Journal. This will be the last edition of This Just In for a little while, as I'm heading out on vacation tomorrow and will return on July 12. I hope you all have a lovely holiday weekend. Pawtucket police officer Daniel Dolan [has been charged with four felony counts]( for shooting an 18-year-old West Greenwich resident while off duty last week. Dolan told investigators that he began pursuing the car driven by Dominic Vincent because he noticed it speeding down Route 95, "thought it had been involved in a crime and he wanted to speak with the operator to prevent him from âpossibly injuring somebody,ââ according to court documents filed by the office of Attorney General Peter Neronha. Investigators determined that Dolan did not have justification for shooting at Vincent after the teen pulled into the driveway of a pizza shop to pick up his takeout order. Dolan has since left the state for a vacation in Oklahoma; he is expected to appear for a court hearing on July 16. Meanwhile, activists with Black Lives Matter RI PAC are accusing Providence police officers [of assaulting and pepper spraying women and children]( after they arrived at the scene of a neighborhood fight in Lower South Providence. Providence police officer Bill Dickey and his wife [pleaded not guilty to shoplifting charges]( Tonight is expected to be [the final night]( the 2021 General Assembly session â although a special fall session looms. It's not clear in each case whether the cause of death was drowning or an unrelated medical issue. One of the top agents in the NFL is a woman who grew up in Johnston. Mark Daniels [has the story of Kim Miale]( a true trailblazer in the sports business world. Former Fall River Jasiel Correia is scheduled to be sentenced for public corruption on Sept. 20. First, [he's getting married]( The Rhode Island Department of Health today reported no new coronavirus deaths and five additional cases of COVID-19, along with 7,001 negative tests, for a 0.1% positive rate. The state has reported an average of 17 cases a day over the last seven days, the lowest number since the very early days of the pandemic. The number of COVID-positive patients in Rhode Island hospitals fell below 20 for the first time since March 17, 2020. With good numbers like those â and given the fact that 56% of the state's total population is fully vaccinated â pandemic expert Dr. Ashish Jha [does not see much reason why fully vaccinated Rhode Islanders should have to wear masks]( even with the emergence of the Delta variant. For the latest edition of her New to R.I. column, Amy Russo visited the home of one of Judge Frank Caprio's sons to watch the Daytime Emmys with the star of "Caught in Providence." As you'll find out, [it was quite a time]( Authorities still haven't determined what caused the fire Tuesday night at the Crook Point Bascule bridge, but [some say they saw fireworks being shot off]( under the span. When it comes to spooky places, Rhode Island punches above its weight.
